R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Houston Chapter of the Crockett Colored
High/Ralph J. Bunche High School Alumni, Ex-Students, and Teachers
Association is hosting a reunion of graduates from throughout
Houston County on August 26-28, 2005, in the city of Houston; and
WHEREAS, The reunion offers an opportunity to refresh old
friendships and to forge new ones, and both laughter and tears will
surely be in evidence over the course of the weekend as participants
reminisce and reflect on years past; and
WHEREAS, The reunion encompasses alumni from many Houston
County schools that, like Ralph J. Bunche High School, were closed
as the result of consolidation and integration, including Center
Grove, Gudebly, Kennard, Post Oak, Reesoben, W. R. Banks, and
Williams; graduates of Crockett High School, which merged with
Ralph J. Bunche High School in 1965, are also invited to
participate; and
WHEREAS, The alumni of these schools grew to adulthood during
an era of unprecedented social, cultural, and political change, and
their shared experience as students during the 20th century has
undoubtedly shaped their values and outlook on life; and
WHEREAS, The wide-ranging professional and personal
achievements of reunion participants offers eloquent testament to
the many strengths of this diverse group, and we celebrate their
outstanding contributions to their communities; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2005
reunion of Houston County schools sponsored by the Houston Chapter
of the Crockett Colored High/Ralph J. Bunche High School Alumni,
Ex-Students, and Teachers Association and extend sincere best
wishes for a memorable weekend to all those associated with this
event.
