R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Reverend S. E. Harris is celebrating his 33rd anniversary as pastor of Saint Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Houston's historic Fifth Ward in 2005; and WHEREAS, A man who wears many hats, Reverend Harris excels in his roles as preacher, leader, counselor, and teacher; through his weekly Bible study and his devotion to preaching the Gospel, he has saved and restored countless souls during his more than three decades of service; and WHEREAS, The effect of his hard work and dedication is also manifested in physical representations, such as the construction of a new church in 1988, the installation of the Wall of Reflection and Honor Monument, and the purchase of additional property for the church's ever-growing congregation; and WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure, Reverend Harris has ordained and installed many new deacons; he has also established an array of committees and auxiliaries dedicated to achieving the congregation's goals; and WHEREAS, Reverend Harris often serves as a mentor and advisor to other pastors and ministers; in addition, he serves his community of faith as the financial secretary of the South Texas District Regular Missionary Baptist Association of Texas; and WHEREAS, For 90 years, Saint Rest Missionary Baptist Church has ably served residents of the Fifth Ward community, and for more than a third of the church's existence, Reverend Harris has shepherded the congregation, providing inspirational leadership and steadfast guidance; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Reverend S. E. Harris on the occasion of his 33rd anniversary as pastor of Saint Rest Missionary Baptist Church and extend best wishes to him for continued success and happiness as the leader of this notable house of worship; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Reverend Harris as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
