R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On August 14, 2005, Salem Institutional Baptist
Church of Dallas is commemorating 117 years of service to the
spiritual and practical needs of its community; and
WHEREAS, Organized in 1888 by Father J. S. Sims, the church
has been blessed with the inspired leadership of 19 dedicated
pastors, each of whom has contributed to the continued growth and
development of this beloved house of worship through its moves from
Paris Street to Preston Street to Bourbon Street to its present
location at 3918 Crozier Street; and
WHEREAS, Since accepting the call to its pulpit 12 years ago,
Dr. Abraham E. Campbell, Jr., has ministered to the congregation,
sharing his understanding and counsel with those who seek his
assistance, and he has been instrumental in myriad improvements to
the church structure and in the creation of a number of beneficial
programs and ministries for the good of the church and the wider
community; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Salem Church has brought
people together in faith, friendship, and praise to affirm devotion
to God, and in so doing, the church has made an immeasurable impact
on its community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Abraham E.
Campbell, Jr., and the members of Salem Institutional Baptist
Church of Dallas on the joyous occasion of the church's 117th
anniversary and extend to all involved heartfelt best wishes for
the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
