R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Joel Glenn Paulk, Jr., of Boy Scouts of America Troop 604 in Houston has attained the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout; and WHEREAS, Receiving the Eagle Scout badge is a rare honor, bestowed on only a fraction of those who enter the scouting movement; in the course of meeting the rank's demanding criteria, Mr. Paulk earned 29 merit badges and successfully completed an Eagle Scout project of benefit to his community; and WHEREAS, The son of Joel and Brenda Paulk, this fine young Texan has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability throughout his scouting career; he earned the Arrow of Light award as a Cub Scout and has been a member of Boy Scout Troop 604 since 1997; a member of the Order of the Arrow, Colonneh Lodge No. 137, he has served his fellow scouts as an assistant patrol leader, a patrol leader, and an assistant senior patrol leader, winning their respect and admiration as he worked toward the highest rank that scouting offers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Paulk is a 2005 graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where he served as a chorale officer and as a representative for the student body; in addition, he performed in the Houston Grand Opera 2003 production of The Magic Flute, participated in the all-region choir, and sang solo with the University of Houston Choir; he is also a valued member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church and is active in several church-related activities; and WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Paulk's dedication to excellence and his perseverance in the pursuit of his goals have proven him worthy to stand among scouting's elite, marking a significant accomplishment he may take pride in throughout his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Joel Glenn Paulk, Jr., on becoming an Eagle Scout and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Paulk as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
