R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In August 2005, Jack and Dorothy Chisum of Pampa commemorated a momentous occasion in their lives with a family trip to Colorado in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary; and WHEREAS, The couple met in 1952 at a square dance club for teens, a fortuitous meeting that began many happy times as dance partners; three years later, Mr. Chisum and the former Dorothy Benham became lifelong partners when they pledged their mutual love and support on August 12, 1955, in a ceremony at First Christian Church in Pampa; and WHEREAS, The heart of a treasured family, the couple take great pride in their daughters and son-in-law, Carla Chisum and Dana and Ken Cargill, grandson Cameron Cargill, and granddaughter Jacklyn Cargill; while raising their children, Mr. and Mrs. Chisum eagerly devoted time and energy to various school and church activities, including numerous band trips; today, their involvement continues with their grandchildren's band events, soccer games, and dance recitals; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Chisum was born in Bowie, grew up in Pampa, and was employed as a secretary in the insurance field for 12 years; a native of Miami, Texas, Mr. Chisum attended Texas Tech University and Frank Phillips College in Borger, where he worked with Phillips Pet Company before becoming owner and operator of Thurmond McGlothlin for the past 48 years; and WHEREAS, Today, Mr. and Mrs. Chisum enjoy their shared interests, including co-piloting their airplane on business and personal trips, working in their yard, which features a pond with a waterfall and colorful koi, and hosting barbecues for their circle of loved ones; and WHEREAS, Together, this dynamic couple have shared the joys and challenges of marriage throughout the past five decades; their unwavering commitment to each other is a source of inspiration to their family and friends, and it is truly a pleasure to pay tribute to them for their enduring union; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby warmly congratulate Jack and Dorothy Chisum on the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them heartfelt best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Chisum as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
