H.R. No. 197







R E S O L U T I O N

	WHEREAS, Memories of a life characterized by a devotion to   

family and meaningful service to the community may comfort the 

family and friends of the Honorable Jack Milam, justice of the peace 

in Victoria County, who passed away on August 7, 2005, at the age of 

69; and

	WHEREAS, Born on February 4, 1936, in Clinton, Oklahoma, Mr. 

Milam graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1954 and received 

his degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1962; he was an 

insurance agent with Farmers Insurance and an apartment-complex 

owner; and

	WHEREAS, This U.S. Army veteran had an outstanding record of 

public service that included serving as vice president of the 

Victoria ISD's board of directors; he was also a member of the board 

of the Texas Zoo, the Friends of the Public Library, and the board 

of the Victoria Bach Festival; furthermore, he was a valued 

congregant at Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, where he was a lay 

minister; and

	WHEREAS, Elected justice of the peace for Precinct 2 in 

northwestern Victoria County in the early 1990s, he earned a 

reputation for professionalism and fairness and was widely 

recognized for his commitment to his community; and

	WHEREAS, Jack Milam was a devoted family man who loved to 

travel and was always ready with a joke, and his memory will be 

forever cherished by those who were blessed to share in his love and 

friendship; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 

Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of 

the Honorable Jack Milam and extend sincere sympathy to the members 

of his family:  to his wife, Carolyn Holan Milam; to his daughter, 

Krista Milam Finnegan; to his sons, David Joseph Milam and Steven 

Michael Milam; to his two grandchildren; and to his other relatives 

and many friends; and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 

prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 

Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Justice of 

the Peace Jack Milam.
