H.R. No. 198





R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Corporal Steven P. Gill of Round Rock suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this courageous young Marine on July 21, 2005, at the age of 24; and WHEREAS, Stirred to defend his country after the events of September 11, he signed up for service in 2002 and learned to scuba dive and parachute behind enemy lines, earning the elite designation of Recon Marine; assigned to the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, which is based in San Antonio, he had been stationed in Iraq for four months when he was killed in action near Zaidon; and WHEREAS, Steve Gill was a 1999 graduate of Westwood High School and a member of the King of Kings Lutheran Church in Round Rock; he went on mission trips with the church to various locales, including a Native American reservation in Oklahoma, where he helped to repair and restore buildings; while studying to be a youth minister at Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois, and in Austin, he helped lead youth and teen groups at his church; and WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men and women whose love for their country inspires them to military service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary young man is a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Corporal Gill will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and fellow Marines, and his bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Corporal Steven P. Gill and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his parents, Bill and Rose Gill; to his brother, James; to his grandmother, Delia Camero; to his second parents, Ron and Sherilyn Jones; to his lifelong friend, Scott; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Steven P.
