R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For more than 15 years, Herbert Holl has made an
indelible contribution to the arts community of North Texas as
executive director of the Greater Denton Arts Council; and
WHEREAS, Born in Germany in 1951, Dr. Holl first arrived in
the United States at the age of eight with his family, who settled
in Huntsville, Alabama; he graduated from Huntsville High School in
1969 and earned a bachelor's degree with honors in piano
performance from Peabody College; soon after, he attended The
University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his master's degree
in music and his doctoral degree in musicology; and
WHEREAS, Before assuming his current role with GDAC, this
esteemed educator served as a staff member and consultant for the
Texas Commission on the Arts and executive director of the Cultural
Council of Victoria; under his leadership, GDAC has tripled its
budget, increased its supporter base by 500 percent, launched a
capital campaign to renovate the Campus Theatre in downtown Denton,
and overseen the expansion of the Center for the Visual Arts; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Holl is actively involved with community
activities such as the Denton Rotary Club and the Downtown Denton
Task Force, and he also serves on the Texas Commission of the Arts
community arts panel and the advisory board of the Denton
Convention and Visitors Bureau; and
WHEREAS, With the support of his wife, accomplished cellist
Delta Thompson Holl, and their children, Lucas and Susan, Dr. Holl
has also distinguished himself as a newspaper columnist and critic,
church choir director, and adjunct professor at the University of
Houston, Texas Woman's University, and the Graduate School of
Public Administration at the University of North Texas; moreover,
he has written numerous academic papers and articles and has
conducted many professional presentations on art, education, and
nonprofits; and
WHEREAS, The vibrancy of our communities depends on the
dedication of individuals like Herbert Holl, who serves as an
inspiration to all who have been touched by his commitment to the
arts and civic service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Herbert Holl for
his exceptional tenure with the Greater Denton Arts Council and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
achievement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Holl as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
