H.R. No. 221
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of Dallas lost a respected businessman and
philanthropist with the passing of Harry Aaron Levy on August 6,
2005, at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, Born Arky Lev in Poland in 1912, Mr. Levy emigrated
to America with his family through Ellis Island in 1915, settling
near relatives in Detroit; following his graduation from high
school at the age of 15, he began his career as a plumber's
assistant and later moved with his family to Dallas, where he
studied business at night and worked with relatives in the plumbing
business by day; and
WHEREAS, Starting his own plumbing venture in 1937, he often
worked seven days a week to make his fledgling business grow, and
the example he set of diligence and commitment to his family
continues to resonate in the lives of his loved ones today; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Levy enlisted in 1943 and served in North Africa
with the Army Air Force Corps of Engineers; following his return to
civilian life, he resumed his business endeavors, which would grow
to include a lawn sprinkler installation service and investments in
real estate; and
WHEREAS, Together with his beloved wife, Florence Ruth, Mr.
Levy believed in giving back to the community, and he benefited a
host of organizations with his generosity and involvement,
including Temple Emanu-El, Sharith Israel, the Masonic Lodge,
Scottish Rite, Hella Temple, Chautauqua, B'nai B'rith, Temple
Brotherhood, the Dallas Symphony, Dallas Woods and Waters, Texas
Real Estate Brokers, and the Texas Master Plumbers Association; in
his leisure time, he pursued a fitness regimen and was an active
outdoorsman who took great pleasure in taking his yearly fishing
trips to Alaska; and
WHEREAS, Harry Aaron Levy exemplified the American dream
during his lifetime and was an inspiration to all who were
privileged to know him; although he will be sorely missed, his
memory will live on through the lasting legacy of achievement he
leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Harry Aaron Levy and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
family: to his wife, Florence Ruth Friedman Levy; to his children,
Jean L. Karotkin and Michael R. Levy; to his granddaughters, Rachel
Levy Goldberg and her husband, Michael, Tobin Janel Levy, Mara
Elizabeth Levy, and Suzanne Lesley Karotkin; to his
great-granddaughter, Sophia Madaline Goldberg; and to his other
family members and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harry Aaron
Levy.
