No. 224R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Those young people who dedicate themselves to the demanding work of intellectual achievement are deserving of every Texan's respect and admiration; and WHEREAS, The members of the OJEMM, or Red Team, who participated in the Texas High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) Program have amply demonstrated their abilities as both dedicated scholars and pragmatic problem-solvers, as evidenced by their winning performance in this year's HAS competition; and WHEREAS, Nominated by state legislators, participating students are selected from throughout the state, and prepare for the event through a rigorous regimen of homework assignments; and WHEREAS, The students are then brought together at NASA headquarters, where they work to design a mission to Mars, a daunting undertaking that incorporates both technological expertise and practical project management; treated to daily speakers and tours of areas not open to the public, the students may come into contact with astronauts and government officials as they design and build rockets, rovers, and egglanders from materials provided while gaining new insight into potential careers in engineering and other technical fields; and WHEREAS, The Red Team's outstanding success in this venture reflects the talent and dedication of its members: Andrew Hunt, Misti Levy, Nicholas Cook, Austin Jesmore, Cynthia Whitt, Valerie Guerrero, Doug Beach, Holly Wallis, Dominic Wedderburn, Katie Zallar, teacher Jeana R. Pierce Brooks, mentor Nicholas Saadah, and coop Nathan Payne; and WHEREAS, In winning this competition, these young scientists and their guides have distinguished themselves as heirs to the proud tradition of scientific inquiry and imaginative experimentation that has driven technological progress throughout the ages; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor the members of OJEMM, or Red Team, for their remarkable achievements in the Texas High School Aerospace Scholars Program and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further REVOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
