R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Cayetano E. Barrera III has been named the Texas
Family Physician of the Year by the Texas Academy of Family
Physicians, and this singular distinction offers an ideal
opportunity to recognize him for his many notable accomplishments;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Barrera is a second-generation physician and
recalls accompanying his father on a house call at the age of eight;
and
WHEREAS, After being discharged from the U.S. Army in 1968,
the younger Dr. Barrera opened the Family Physician Clinic, and in
1982, he and his partners opened the first night clinic, with hours
until midnight, in the Valley; and
WHEREAS, A former chief of staff at McAllen General Hospital,
Dr. Barrera is a cofounder of The University of Texas Residency
Program in McAllen; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Barrera's contributions to the community extend
far beyond his professional life; he chairs the board of Rio
National Bank and has served as president of the Rio Grande Boy
Scout Council, the Hidalgo-Starr Counties Medical Society, and the
McAllen Citizens League; and
WHEREAS, This talented Texan's dedication to the greater good
is indeed deserving of the respect, gratitude, and admiration of
his fellow citizens, and we join them in saluting his
accomplishments at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Cayetano
E. Barrera III on being named Texas Family Physician of the Year and
extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Barrera as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
