R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The citizens of Corpus Christi lost a devoted
citizen, prominent business leader, and beloved friend with the
passing of Maria del Rosario Carrizo on August 11, 2005, at the age
of 65; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Carrizo owned and operated La Malinche Tortilla
Factory and Tamale Factory, her family's business that was founded
in 1939; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to her community and
illustrating how women can make a difference, this notable Texan
was involved with a host of civic and political organizations; a
delegate to the Democratic Party state convention, she also gave of
her time and talents to the Westside Business Association, Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce, and South Texas Institute for the Arts; and
WHEREAS, Maria del Rosario Carrizo will long be remembered
for her love of family and community, and although she will be
deeply missed, her unique spirit will endure in the hearts of those
whose lives she so richly blessed; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the
life of Maria del Rosario Carrizo and extend sincere sympathy to the
members of her family: to her husband, Rafael Carrizo; to her
daughter, Marcella Carrizo; to her sons, Rocky, Michael, and
Mauricio Carrizo; to her niece, Laura Chapa; to her brother, Abel
Chapa; to her two grandchildren; and to all who mourn the passing of
this much-loved woman; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Maria del
Rosario Carrizo.
