R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After more than 20 years as a superintendent and
more than 40 years as an educator, Mike Crossland is retiring from
his position with the Spring Hill Independent School District in
Longview on December 31, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Born on January 23, 1940, in Daingerfield, Mr.
Crossland attended Kilgore College and earned a bachelor's degree
from Oklahoma Christian College and a master's degree from the
University of Mississippi; in addition to receiving his all-level
administrative certificate from Stephen F. Austin State
University, he holds professional certification in mathematics,
health, and physical education; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Crossland first worked as a math teacher and
coach in Oklahoma City before returning to his home state and
teaching for Longview ISD; he also distinguished himself during a
20-year tenure with White Oak ISD, where he served as an instructor,
coach, and administrator; and
WHEREAS, An active member of the education community, Mr.
Crossland is a former president of the Piney Woods Chapter of the
Texas Association of Supervisors and Curriculum Directors and a
member of the Texas State Teachers Association, the Association of
Texas Professional Educators, and the American Association of
Supervisors and Curriculum Directors; he is also a life member of
the White Oak and Spring Hill Parent Teacher Associations and an
elder for Judson Road Church of Christ; and
WHEREAS, Together with his wife, Gloria, Mr. Crossland plans
to spend his retirement fishing, traveling, and enjoying time with
his six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mike Crossland has served the needs of our state's
youth for nearly half a century as an educator and administrator,
and his retirement provides a fitting opportunity to recognize this
esteemed Texan for his notable contributions and achievements; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Mike Crossland on his
exceptional tenure as an educator and extend to him sincere best
wishes for a fulfilling retirement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Crossland as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
