R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Floyd Franklin Watson of Pampa on
August 16, 2005, at the age of 83, has brought a profoundly felt
loss to the family members and friends of this esteemed Texan; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 26, 1922, in Sherman, Mr. Watson
graduated from Denton High School in 1939 and served his country in
the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II; he wed Maxine Loader in
Denton on June 22, 1946, and enjoyed a long and happy marriage that
was blessed with three children; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Watson had a successful career in banking that
began in 1942 when he accepted a position as a bookkeeper for the
First State Bank in Denton; in 1944, he joined the Texas Department
of Banking as assistant examiner, and two years later, he was
employed by Citizens Bank and Trust Company in Pampa, where, over
the course of 12 years, he rose through the ranks from cashier to
executive vice president; and
WHEREAS, In 1959, he began a 36-year tenure with First
National Bank, eventually serving as bank president and chairman of
the board before his retirement in 1995; Mr. Watson further
distinguished himself as a member of the Texas Bankers Association
board of directors and the Regional Advisory Committee of the
National Banking Department's Office of the Comptroller of
Currency; and
WHEREAS, Despite his many professional responsibilities, Mr.
Watson gave generously of his time and talents to a host of civic
organizations; he served as president of the local Rotary Club,
Jaycees, and United Way board, and the Pampa Chamber of Commerce and
Board of City Development, Pampa ISD board of trustees, and Pampa
Industrial Foundation; moreover, he was treasurer and one of the
original organizers and directors of the Pampa Youth and Community
Center and a highly valued member of First Baptist Church, where he
chaired the Deacon Board, taught Sunday school, and participated in
the Everyman's Bible Class; and
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Floyd Watson
will remember his dedication to his family and his community;
although he will be sorely missed, his spirit will continue to live
on in the hearts of those whose lives he so richly blessed; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Floyd Franklin Watson and extend deepest sympathy to the members of
his family: to his daughters, Linda Ferguson and her husband,
Clint, and Beth Duggan and her husband, John; to his son, Randall F.
Watson; to his grandchildren, Trey Ferguson and his wife, Adrienne,
David Ferguson and his wife, Holly, Abby Cobb and her husband, Beau,
Eric Duggan, Emily Watson, and Luke Watson; to his
great-grandchildren, Seth Ferguson and Maddie Cobb; and to his
other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Floyd
Franklin Watson.
