R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of Suzanne Ray Taylor on August 14, 2005, at the age of 68, a life filled with many joyful times and meaningful accomplishments drew to a close; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Taylor was a native of New York City, where she was born to John and Julia Ray on January 2, 1937; in 1946 she moved with her family from Westchester County, New York, to Texas; the Rays established their home in Dallas, the city their daughter called home for much of her life; and WHEREAS, A member of the Hillcrest High School Class of 1954, Mrs. Taylor was an alumna of Stephens College and went on to graduate from Southern Methodist University in 1958; while attending SMU, she was named Rotunda Beauty by her classmates; and WHEREAS, After completing her education, Mrs. Taylor embarked on a notable, long-term career as a model, a career open to few and requiring immense reserves of discipline, commitment, and stamina; she enjoyed well-deserved success and worked for Neiman Marcus in New York City and the Kim Dawson Agency in Dallas, in addition to spending time in Europe; and WHEREAS, An astute businesswoman, moreover, Mrs. Taylor demonstrated impressive abilities as an entrepreneur during the quarter-century that she owned the Suzanne Dietz Photography Studio; and WHEREAS, This lovely lady exchanged wedding vows with John Greene Taylor on December 8, 1984, and the couple made their home in the Highland Park area of Dallas; Mrs. Taylor took great pride in her roles as wife and mother, and her life was further enriched with the arrival of three granddaughters and the attendant joys of grandparenting; and WHEREAS, Not only beautiful but blessed with many talents, especially of an artistic nature, this treasured woman developed her gifts over the course of pleasurable hours devoted to drawing and painting; and WHEREAS, Suzanne Taylor's gracious nature, generosity, and enthusiasm for life won the hearts of all who knew her; although she is sorely missed, she will long be remembered with deep affection by those who were fortunate enough to share in the warmth of her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life and accomplishments of Suzanne Ray Taylor and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, John Greene Taylor; to her daughter, Kimberly Harrell; to her granddaughters, Alexis, Taylor, and Mackenzie; to her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roy and Mary Taylor; to her cousins, Janet Stainaker and Stanfield Frost; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Suzanne Ray Taylor.
