SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Bob Lee for continuing to promote racial harmony and
peace among all people through his artwork; and
WHEREAS, After a life spent as an activist, organizer, and
social worker, Bob became an artist, and he has found another
avenue to spread his message of hope and renewal; and
WHEREAS, Bob started making collages seven years ago after
his cousin and childhood friend James Byrd, Jr., was killed in
Jasper; a former Black Panther, Bob wanted to promote peace among
all people through his art; and
WHEREAS, In mixed media pieces dealing with such issues as
reparations, discrimination, and the HIV/AIDS crisis, Bob
photocopies photographs and clippings from newspapers and
magazines and colors them with markers, blending personal
passions with mass distribution; he distributes copies of his
collages to anyone who might be interested in them and also sends
copies to the subjects of his work; and
WHEREAS, Bob's work has been displayed at galleries
throughout the state, including the South Austin Museum of
Popular Culture; his work is being shown in a one-man exhibit at
DiverseWorks in Houston from July 9 through August 5, 2005; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Bob Lee for
his innovative art and his work in advancing better understanding
among all people; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
