SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3



	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 

join citizens across the Rio Grande Valley in paying tribute to 

radio announcer and program director Hugo de la Cruz, who is 

celebrating his 38th year with Univision Radio; and

	WHEREAS, Popular performers in the Tejano, Norteño, and 

Conjunto music industry will honor the popular radio personality 

at the Festival de Estrellas y Tributo a Hugo de la Cruz, which is 

being held in Hidalgo on July 26, 2005; and

	WHEREAS, As program director for KGBT-FM and KGBT-AM,

Hugo has kept KGBT-FM at the number one spot in ratings for years, 

not only among Spanish-language stations but in the total market; 

KGBT-AM, with a broadcasting range that reaches all of South Texas

and deep into Mexico, consistently ranks among the top 10 radio 

stations in the market; and

	WHEREAS, Hugo has long believed that every person, 

regardless of social or financial status, deserves respect and 

compassion; he obtained medical assistance for a 500-pound man 

whose obesity confined him to his house for years, and he found a 

home for a family living in a cardboard shanty; he has assisted 

many people and raised thousands of dollars to help others in the 

community; and

	WHEREAS, He is well known for his ability to laugh at 

himself and with others during his highly rated show, Y Ahora 

Usted Opina, and hundreds of callers express their opinions 

during his popular Football Scoreboard on Friday nights; and

	WHEREAS, Hugo de la Cruz has brought enjoyment to thousands 

of listeners of radio stations KGBT-FM and KGBT-AM, and he indeed 

deserves legislative recognition on the occasion of his 38th year 

with Univision Radio; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend

Hugo de la Cruz on his exemplary career on Univision Radio and 

extend to him best wishes for continued success; and, be it 

further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 

him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
