SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the members of the class of 1955 of the Phillis Wheatley
High School in Houston, who are gathering October 6 through 9, 2005,
to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation; and
WHEREAS, The reunion of the Phillis Wheatley High School
class of 1955 is an opportunity for the class members to reminisce
about the many high school adventures they shared and recall
their affection for their teachers and coaches as well; and
WHEREAS, Located in the inner city of the historical
Fifth Ward near downtown Houston, Phillis Wheatley High School
is renowned for its outstanding graduates, such as the late
United States Representatives Barbara Jordan and Mickey Leland;
and
WHEREAS, In gathering to celebrate their 50th reunion,
the members of the class of 1955 are expressing their longtime
commitment to tradition, unity, and loyal friendship; and
WHEREAS, The students of the graduating class of 1955 are
now doctors, lawyers, ministers, educators, musicians, athletes,
artists, business proprietors, and other business, governmental,
and community leaders, and they deserve to be proud of their many
successful endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the members
of the class of 1955 for their many accomplishments and extend to
them best wishes for a joyful and rewarding reunion; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate.
