SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 23
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
welcome and recognize as Honorary Texans six distinguished
citizens from Gibraltar who are visiting Texas and the
City of Austin; and
WHEREAS, Charles Beanland recently retired after a long
career in banking in Gibraltar; Elizabeth Beanland retired after
a career in retailing; Teresa Beanland is currently a high school
English teacher and is visiting her brother in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Claire Povedano is a student in Canterbury, England,
and is working towards a Certificate of Education and plans to
teach religious studies at a high school in Gibraltar; Ernest and
Jane Povedano are visiting their son in Austin; Ernest retired
two years ago from his post as vice principal of a middle school
in Gibraltar, and Jane is an elementary school teacher in
Gibraltar; and
WHEREAS, These new Honorary Texans may now assume their new
responsibilities, which include flying the flag of the great
State of Texas each year on March 2 to celebrate Texas Independence
Day and to honor the heroes of Goliad, the Alamo, and San Jacinto;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby designate
Charles Beanland, Elizabeth Beanland, Teresa Beanland,
Claire Povedano, Ernest Povedano, and Jane Povedano as
Honorary Texans with all the privileges and perquisites as well
as the obligations and responsibilities accorded those individuals
native to the Lone Star State; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
each new Honorary Texan as an expression of regard from the
Texas Senate.
