SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40
In Memory
of
Bond Davis
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Bond Davis, who
died July 6, 2005, at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Bond Davis was born on
April 3, 1915, to Mary Bond and Franklin Coley Davis; he graduated
from Jefferson High School, The University of Texas at Austin,
and The University of Texas School of Law; and
WHEREAS, He proudly served as a navigator in the
United States Army Air Corps for five years during World War II
and retired with the rank of major; he developed friendships
during his military service that he maintained throughout his
life; and
WHEREAS, After working for the district attorney, Bond
practiced law with his father before joining the firm of Gresham,
Davis, Gregory, Worthy and Moore; he was the city attorney for
Alamo Heights for nine years; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Bond was a longtime member of
the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, an
elder, and a trustee and taught in the church school; and
WHEREAS, He generously devoted his time and energy to
fraternal and community organizations and served on the board of
directors of a number of them, including the Children's Service
Bureau, Harry Jersig Speech and Hearing Center, and the Young
Men's Christian Association; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Bond Davis: his devoted
wife of 54 years, Olive Falvey Davis; his daughters and
sons-in-law, Carol Davis West and David West, Mary Davis Wilde
and Stephen Wilde, and Hallie Dans Doyle and Michael Doyle; his
son, Reagan Hunter Davis; his brother, Franklin C. Davis, Jr.;
and his five grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of profound sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Bond Davis.
