SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41
In Memory
of
Bernard Sugarman
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Bernard "Sugie" Sugarman,
who died April 11, 2005, at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Bernard Sugarman was
born in 1911; at an early age, he joined his father at Sugarman
Brothers and Son Department Store; and
WHEREAS, He later founded Sugarman's Uniform Company and
outfitted many of the members of the San Antonio police force,
military personnel, and students from several local private
schools; and
WHEREAS, He was admired and respected by his customers
and remained a favorite of the uniform community long after he
retired from the uniform business; and
WHEREAS, Bernard was an avid golfer, and one of his
proudest achievements was making a hole-in-one at the age of 84;
he enriched the lives of all who knew him through his love and
compassion, his warmth and kindness, and his enthusiasm for
living each day to the fullest; he was preceded in death by his
wife of over 60 years, Miriam Friedman Sugarman; and
WHEREAS, Bernard Sugarman lived his life to the fullest
and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Bernard Sugarman: his
daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Stanley Rosenberg;
his son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Carol Sugarman; and his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Bernard Sugarman.
