SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 51
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Corpus Christi Complex of Lyondell Chemical
Company's Equistar Chemicals, Limited Partnership, on the
occasion of its 25th anniversary and for its longtime
certification as an Occupational Safety and Health
Administration Voluntary Protection Program STAR site; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Port Industries of Corpus Christi,
this eminent chemical complex has an annual economic impact on
the Coastal Bend area of approximately $240 million; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the employees at Lyondell Corpus
Christi Complex contribute their time and resources to numerous
community organizations, such as United Way, the March of Dimes,
the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Corpus Christi Literacy Council,
and the American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, The company's focus on workplace safety has paid
significant dividends; in August of 2004, the Corpus Christi
Complex achieved a two-year record of zero recordable incidents,
and it has maintained its Occupational Safety and Health
Administration STAR rating since 1986; and
WHEREAS, The complex's environmental record has improved
through the years; toxic release inventory air emissions have
decreased 91 percent since 1995, and an aggressive 31-point
program was initiated in 1998 to significantly improve plant
energy efficiency; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the
Corpus Christi Complex of Lyondell Chemical Company's Equistar
Chemicals, Limited Partnership, for 25 years of good corporate
citizenship; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the Lyondell Corpus Christi Complex as an expression of esteem
from the Texas Senate.
