SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Corpus Christi, which was recently named winner of the
title of the "Birdiest" City in America for 2005; and
WHEREAS, Awarded annually by the American Bird Conservancy,
this honor goes to the city in which the greatest number of
species of birds are spotted within the city limits on a
particular weekend; and
WHEREAS, The Audubon Outdoor Club of Corpus Christi put out
a request for birders, and the local birding community responded;
dozens of volunteers, binoculars in hand, stationed themselves
throughout the city at strategic locations to record as many
species as possible; and
WHEREAS, With 237 species spotted by local birders on the
weekend of April 23-24, Corpus Christi won this coveted title for
the third consecutive year, confirming the high quality of the
Coastal Bend habitat; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate
Corpus Christi on being named the "Birdiest" City in America;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this occasion.
