SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 56
In Memory
of
Simon Alva, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Simon Alva, Jr., who died July 18, 2005, at the age of 66; and WHEREAS, Simon Alva, Jr., was born February 17, 1939, in San Antonio; he served in the United States Air Force and the National Guard for 23 years; he was a former member of the 449th Air Wing and a retiree of the 149th Maintenance Group; and WHEREAS, Simon was employed for several years by Reliable Life Insurance Company; he was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus 1102, 4th Degree of Assembly, and was a former Grand Knight of Our Lady of Grace Knights of Columbus Council 10191; he was also a member of the Saint John's Men's Club; and WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, Simon gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, Simon Alva was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Simon Alva, Jr.: his wife, Mary Ann Alva; his mother, Avelina Alva; his daughters and son-in-law, Marie Evelyn Alva and Benjamin Negron, Sandra Diane Alva Douglas, and Desiree Dulcine Alva; his sons and daughters-in-law, Simon Alva III and Georgina, Charles Edward and Diana Alva, and John Adrian Alva and Patty Hernandez; his brothers, Faustino, Luther, Charles, Valentin, and Peter Alva; his sisters, Anna Marie Cantu, Genevieve Caverly, and Eda Alva; and his eight grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Simon Alva, Jr. Van de Putte ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on August 8, 2005, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
