SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 65
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the soldiers of the 507th Medical Company (Air Ambulance)
of the United States Army for their invaluable work in providing
medical evacuation of the sick and wounded; and
WHEREAS, Based out of Fort Hood, Texas, this outstanding
unit performs its duties in both peace and wartime; in
January of 2003, the unit gave up its peacetime mission and
deployed to Kuwait to prepare for Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, The aircraft of the 507th Medical Company
(Air Ambulance) were the first coalition aircraft to land in
Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom; in support of the
3rd Infantry Division, the crews of this unit evacuated 463
casualties while flying over 1,000 hours; for the crews' heroics,
the company was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, and many
of the crews received Air Medals with Valor; and
WHEREAS, On February 17, 2004, this courageous unit
returned to Iraq for its second tour of duty; this time it was
assigned to the 1st Marine Division in western Iraq, where its
members provided continuous evacuation operations for over 365
days; in 3,700 hours of flight operations, the unit airlifted
close to 1,800 casualties to safety; and
WHEREAS, The 507th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) was
recently redesignated and reassigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion,
4th Aviation Regiment, 4th Infantry Division; the unit already
has orders to deploy in November of 2005 for its third tour of
duty in Iraq, making it the most highly deployed unit in the
entire United States military; the unit is truly the embodiment
of dedicated service and courage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the
soldiers of the 507th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) for their
heroic service and sacrifice on behalf of our fighting forces;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the unit as an expression of gratitude and high regard from the
Texas Senate.
