SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 88
In Memory
of
Sara Jane Whiteman Sonneland
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Boerne in mourning the loss of Sara Jane Whiteman "Sally" Sonneland,
who died July 21, 2005, at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, Sally was born July 26, 1925, in Greenville,
Pennsylvania; she graduated from Hastings High School in
Nebraska in 1942 and from A. A. Stephens College in Columbia,
Missouri, in 1944; and
WHEREAS, Sally married Joseph August Sonneland on
December 27, 1948; the couple lived in New York City, Brooklyn,
and Long Island, and Sally volunteered her time and served her
community as an enthusiastic community volunteer; and
WHEREAS, She was a member of the Junior League and served
on numerous community health and welfare boards, and she was
instrumental in establishing one of the first volunteer bureaus
in the New York metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, After moving to Boerne, Sally was active in the
P.E.O., several book clubs, and numerous other volunteer
activities; and
WHEREAS, Sally Sonneland gave generously of herself to
others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be
forgotten by those who knew her; and
WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, she leaves behind
memories that will be cherished forever by her family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Sally Sonneland: her son
and daughter-in-law, Andrew Whiteman Sonneland and
Jane Predoehl Sonneland; her daughter, Eliza Dickey Sonneland;
her brothers, Samuel Dickey Whiteman, Jr., and Joseph David Whiteman;
her sisters-in-law, Mary Nelte Sonneland Parriott,
Mary Kelly Whiteman, and Beverly Dunn Whiteman; and her grandchildren,
Heather Jane Musch and Andrew Whiteman Sonneland, Jr.; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of sincere sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Sara Jane Whiteman "Sally" Sonneland.
