SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Joan Light, who is retiring from the Office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts on August 31, 2005, after almost 35 years of loyal service to the state; and WHEREAS, Joan began working for the comptroller's office in the Tax Records Division in 1969, when Robert S. Calvert was comptroller; over the years she has seen many advancements and has been a vital part of much progress in the office; and WHEREAS, In 1976, she was promoted to a supervisory position in the same division, which was renamed the Revenue Processing Division; she became manager of disbursements in Revenue Accounting in 1980 and managed Suspense, Allocations, Refund, and Warrant Hold Sections; in 1981, she helped organize a new tax division, Bingo Tax; she set up office policies and procedures and designed forms; and WHEREAS, Joan transferred to the Data Services Division in 1984, where her responsibilities included managing technical writing and the technical library; she began her work in the agency's Business Continuity and Recovery Program in 1993 and has since conducted many workshops and made presentations at numerous state and national conferences; and WHEREAS, Throughout her service with the state, Joan has handled her responsibilities with exceptional skill and dedication; she is admired and respected by her colleagues, and her presence in the Office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Joan Light on her exemplary career and her many contributions to this state and extend to her best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
