SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 111
In Memory
of
Wallace Lee Luthy
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Kingwood in mourning the loss of Wallace Lee Luthy,
who died July 30, 2005, at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, Wallace Lee Luthy was born in Homestead Park,
Pennsylvania; after earning a bachelor's degree in petroleum
engineering from the University of Pittsburg, he served in the
United States Army as a transportation specialist and medic in
Korea; and
WHEREAS, He began a 41-year career with Mobil Oil Company
in 1955 as a petroleum engineer and later moved to positions in
computer systems and planning; he was named president and general
manager of Mobil Natural Gas in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Active in several professional organizations
throughout his career, Wally was the chair of the Natural Gas
Supply Association steering committee and of the American Gas
Producer Pipeline Distributor Taskforce; he served on the board
of directors of Energen Corporation for 10 years, beginning in
1995; and
WHEREAS, Wally Luthy, known for his fair and commonsensical
approach to life, was admired and respected by his peers and
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Wallace Lee Luthy: his
wife of 45 years, Jan Vickrey; his son and daughter-in-law,
W. Lee Luthy, Jr., and Tammy Luthy; his daughters and
sons-in-law, Jill and Steve VonOsten and Lynn and David Wright;
and his four grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Wallace Lee Luthy.
