SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 115
In Memory
of
Sally Ann Kelso
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Sally Ann Kelso, who died August 9, 2005, at the age of 58; and WHEREAS, Sally made any gathering a warmer, more welcoming place by her mere presence, and her radiant smile and great good humor uplifted the spirits of others; and WHEREAS, Born in Indianapolis, Sally Ann Richards grew up in Indiana and Florida before her family moved to Honolulu, where she graduated from high school; she moved to California to pursue an acting career and worked on such popular television shows as "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Courtship of Eddie's Father"; and WHEREAS, Sally moved to Austin in the early 1970s and became the kitchen manager of the Texas Chili Parlor; in 1980, she met John Kelso at the Raw Deal restaurant on West Sixth Street; the two went to Eeyore's Birthday Party the next day and they were married soon afterward; and WHEREAS, A movie buff, comedy aficionado, and lover of animals, Sally was often a foil to her husband John in his columns; she was known for her one-line quips and her exceptional ability to come up with the perfect name for her beloved pets; and WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, Sally gave generously of herself to others, and her kindness, warmth, and enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Sally leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Sally Ann Kelso: her husband, John Kelso; her daughter, Kaiulani Thelen; her sisters, Catherine Richards and Nan Jordan; and her two grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sally Ann Kelso.
