SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 125
In Memory
of
Josefina F. Gonzalez
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of Josefina F. Gonzalez,
who died July 9, 2005, at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, Born August 28, 1927, Josefina married
Juan Alonzo Gonzalez, Sr., on August 4, 1944, and they reared six
children together; she was preceded in death by her husband and
by her son, Juan Alonzo Gonzalez, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Josefina loved cooking Sunday lunch for her
large, loving family, where her carne picada con papas and mole
were perennial favorites; for the holidays, she always made
everybody's favorite dessert, her famous vanilla pudding with
bananas and cherries; and
WHEREAS, A talented decorator and seamstress, Josefina
made her own curtains, bedspreads and other household items; her
garden was always perfect, and she loved feeding the birds that
gathered there; and
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength and compassion,
Josefina gave generously of herself to others, and her wisdom,
warmth and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those whose
lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Josefina F. Gonzalez: her
children, Mercedes Gonzalez, Maria Yolanda Dominguez,
Arturo Gonzalez, Juan Alfredo Gonzalez and Rosa Ana Paredes; her
seven brothers and sisters; and her 21 grandchildren and 26
great-grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Josefina Gonzalez.
