SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 127
In Memory
of
James William Tankard, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of James William Tankard, Jr., who died August 12, 2005, at the age of 64; and WHEREAS, A beloved educator, author and editor, Professor Tankard gave his family and his students the gifts of joy in curiosity and passion for exploration, and his influence will continue to be felt in the field of journalism for generations to come; and WHEREAS, Dr. Tankard taught for 32 years at The University of Texas at Austin, where he was Jesse H. Jones professor in journalism; he taught 17 different courses at the university and chaired the committee that created the professional journalism master's program; and WHEREAS, A man of great creativity, intellect and compassion, he gave generously of himself to others, and his wisdom, warmth and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of James William Tankard, Jr.: his wife, Sara Elaine Fuller Tankard; his daughters, Amy Elizabeth Tankard Hill, Jessica Hope Tankard and Margaret Elaine Tankard; and his brothers, Robert Preston Tankard and Frederick Wright Tankard; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James William Tankard, Jr. Zaffirini ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on August 19, 2005, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
