SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the National Christian Singles' Seminar, which is
being held this year in Houston; and
WHEREAS, The first National Christian Singles' Seminar
was held in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1977; it was organized by
a widowed Christian woman named Maxine Edwards Woolridge, who
was seeking a way to enhance the region's ministry to single
Christians; and
WHEREAS, The seminar was designed for persons who have
never married, or who are single through divorce or the death
of a spouse; its purpose is to provide an opportunity for
single people to share their common interests and strengthen
the ministry of fellowship; and
WHEREAS, The seminar brings people together from a number
of congregations across the country; they participate in
activities that include lectures, worship services, singing,
fellowship, gatherings for dinner, and a picnic; and
WHEREAS, As a result of the contacts made at the National
Christian Singles' Seminar, many of its participants develop
lasting friendships and relationships; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend all
involved in organizing the 2005 National Christian Singles'
Seminar for their efforts on behalf of Christian single people
and extend best wishes to them for a successful event; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for the organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
