AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

As proposed, S.B. 45 designates the Interstate Highway 45 causeway connecting Galveston Island and the Texas coast as the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.062, as follows:

 

Sec. 225.062.  PURPLE HEART MEMORIAL BRIDGE.  (a)  Designates the causeway on Interstate Highway 45 connecting Galveston Island and the Texas coast as the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge. 

 

(b)  Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to design and construct memorial markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge, and any other appropriate information.

 

(c)  Requires TxDOT to erect a marker at each end of the causeway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the causeway.

 

(d)  Provides that TxDOT is not required to design, construct, or erect a marker under this section unless TxDOT receives a grant or donation to cover the cost of the design, construction, or erection.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date:  September 1, 2006.
