A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the designation of a portion of State Highway 287 as the 
Martin Luther King Expressway.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, 
is amended by adding Section 225.062 to read as follows:
	Sec. 225.062.  MARTIN LUTHER KING EXPRESSWAY.  (a)  The part 
of State Highway 287 located in the municipal boundaries of the City 
of Fort Worth is designated as the Martin Luther King Expressway.
	(b)  The department shall design and construct memorial 
markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the 
Martin Luther King Expressway, and any other appropriate 
information.
	(c)  The department shall erect a marker at each end of the 
highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.
	(d)  The department is not required to design, construct, or 
erect a marker under this section unless the department receives a 
grant or donation to cover the cost of the design, construction, and 
erection.
	(e)  In this section, a reference to the municipal boundaries 
of the City of Fort Worth means those boundaries as they exist on 
September 1, 2006.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2006.
