A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to appropriating money to pay for a judgment rendered in
certain litigation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. In addition to amounts previously appropriated
to the comptroller of public accounts for the state fiscal biennium
ending August 31, 2007, the amount of $640,226 is appropriated to
the comptroller out of the general revenue fund for the state fiscal
biennium ending August 31, 2007, to pay Patricia King for damages
and attorney's fees, plus additional interest, if any, as provided
by the judgment of the court in the case styled Patricia King v.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice, et al., No. 99-064-B (87th
Dist. Ct., Freestone County, Tex., case filed on March 12, 1999,
judgment entered on November 20, 2000).
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
legislative session.
