H.C.R. No. 15 


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Arp High School boys' basketball team captured the school's first state title by winning the University Interscholastic League 2A State Championship on March 11, 2006; and WHEREAS, The Arp Tigers proved their mettle throughout the regular season and won their place in the state semifinals by upsetting the top-ranked Kountze Lions, the defending state champions, in a masterful exhibition of defensive basketball; and WHEREAS, After besting their semifinal opponent, Arp grappled with a determined Ponder High School team in the state finals; displaying the same pluck and precision that had seen them through the rest of the season, the Tigers overcame a first-half deficit to claim a 65-49 victory and take home the coveted state title; and WHEREAS, In posting an impressive 32-4 record for the season, the Tigers were driven by the contributions of each member of their talented team: seniors Brandon Battiste, Mark Gill, Charles Holder, Tommy Reese, and Wes Wills, juniors Kendal McClendon and Zack Spears, and sophomores Sedrick Johnson, Trumaine Jones, Christopher Keith, and Corey Walker; and WHEREAS, Head coach Brian Keith and assistant coach Justin Hunley gave these young men a thorough how-to in hardwood fundamentals and also taught them the importance of conducting themselves with pride and dignity; and WHEREAS, A state championship can only be won through dedication and hard work, and this moment of glory will forever be a proud moment in the history of Arp High School and in the lives of the 11 players who so proudly wore the school's maroon and white; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Arp High School boys' basketball team for winning the UIL 2A State Championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
