H.C.R. No. 20 


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Janie Casey is retiring from her position as director of guidance and counseling with the Keller Independent School District, and members of her community are joining together to pay tribute to this esteemed woman on May 6, 2006; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Casey earned her bachelor's degree in secondary education and her master of education degree in counseling from the University of North Texas; she joined Keller ISD in 1973, and during the past three decades, she has lovingly guided a generation of children both as a teacher and a counselor; and WHEREAS, She has further contributed to her chosen field by leading district-wide initiatives, including the Keller ISD Crisis Management Plan, the restructuring of the Guidance and Counseling Program for grades K-12, and the parent education program Love and Logic; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Casey's service has earned her well-deserved acclaim; named Counselor Supervisor of the Year, she has also received the Hero Award for Outstanding Service to Children, the Shining Star Award for Community Involvement, and the Outstanding Alumna Award from the University of North Texas, to name but a few; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Casey also serves as adjunct instructor at Texas Christian University and Dallas Baptist University, on the District 98 Education Advisory Board, the Advisory Board for Counselor Education at the University of North Texas, and the Rocky Top Therapy Ranch Advisory Board for Youth; moreover, she is credited with the establishment of "Casey's Kids," an annual clothing drive that helps countless children in need; and WHEREAS, Janie Casey may reflect with great pride on the invaluable contributions she has made to the young people of the Lone Star State; she has worked diligently to improve the quality of education in her community, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and the many teachers, students, and parents with whom she has been associated, and her legacy of professional excellence merits special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas, 3rd Called Session, hereby declare May 6, 2006, Janie Casey Day in Keller and commend Mrs. Casey for her decades of exceptional service to the Keller Independent School District; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Casey as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
