CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Family members and friends of Glenn Canfield, Jr., who passed away on January 30, 2006, at the age of 70, may take solace in the knowledge that this longtime Longview resident has left behind a legacy of success and achievement that will be remembered for years to come; and WHEREAS, A native of Springfield, Illinois, Mr. Canfield was born to Glenn and Ruth K. Canfield on September 20, 1935, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War; in 1954, he honored a promise made to his mother by becoming the first member of his family to graduate from high school, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Illinois, as well as a master's in business administration from The University of Texas at Tyler; and WHEREAS, Mr. Canfield's 27-year career in the steel industry took him to Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, and Syracuse, New York, before he eventually settled in Longview, where he was employed by Lone Star Steel; this self-motivated and energetic individual set out on his own in 1986, establishing several entrepreneurial enterprises related to the production of steel, including the Plum Group, the Thermo Tech Company, Canfield Engineering, Inc., and Canfield & Associates; and WHEREAS, A man of strong faith with an abiding commitment to his family, Mr. Canfield attended Oakland Heights Baptist Church for many years; he was active with the Republican Party since 1958 and assumed numerous leadership roles on the local and state levels, most notably as chairman and secretary of the Gregg County Republican Party; and WHEREAS, Loving husband and father, skilled scientist and businessman, community activist and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, Glenn Canfield excelled in his many and varied roles during his long and fruitful life, and although he is deeply missed by his loved ones, his memory and spirit will flourish in their hearts all the days of their lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Glenn Canfield, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Virginia "Ginger" Canfield; to his children, Charisse Bodisch, Derek Canfield, Cheryl Cerda, Sherry Dickson, Randy Dickson, Tricia Brown, and Danny Dickson; to his siblings, Dr. John B. Canfield and Juanita Canfield; to his grandchildren, Nikki Canfield, Alec Ethan Canfield, Angelina Almanza, Racheal Ibarra, Tony Kellum, Sr., Tommy Arredondo, Dr. Misty Baker, Tish Davis, Angela Davis, Billy Dickson, and Mark Dickson; to his great-grandchildren, Julianna Almanza, Vanessa Almanza, Isaicc Ibarra, Carlos Arredondo, Jose Arredondo, Tony Kellum, Jr., Eric Kellum, Sommer Baker, Lexi Baker, and Braxton Baker; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Glenn Canfield, Jr.
