H.C.R. No. 33
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Citizens of Deport lost a treasured neighbor and
friend with the passing of Carlys Denison on April 20, 2006, at the
age of 86; and
WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mr. Denison was born
on October 26, 1919, in Milton; he served his country in the
U.S. Army during World War II and went on to hold a distinguished
career as a U.S. postmaster that spanned three decades; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his adopted hometown, Mr. Denison
demonstrated his commitment to his fellow residents as a member of
the Deport City Council and the local volunteer fire department;
and
WHEREAS, He was an active congregant of the First
Presbyterian Church of Deport, where he served as a deacon and as
church treasurer for many years; he held a nearly 50-year tenure as
post commander of the Deport American Legion Warren-Teague Post
199, and enjoyed membership in the Deport Masonic Lodge No. 381; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
Mr. Denison was an avid outdoorsman who took great pleasure in
hunting, fishing, and raising cattle; he was a noteworthy civic
leader and respected citizen, and while he will be greatly missed,
his legacy of public service will surely be remembered for many
years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas,
3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Carlys Denison
and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife, Betty Denison; to his son, John Denison and his wife, Larann;
to his grandson, Dr. Dru Denison and his wife, Kimberly; to his
sister, Dee Bonham; to his brothers, Warren Denison and Dr. Bobby
Denison and his wife, Ramona; and to his other relatives and many
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
Carlys Denison.
