H.C.R. No. 37
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Officer Billy J. Zachary of the Texas Department of
Public Safety was killed in the line of duty on January 1, 2006, at
the age of 32, and his tragic death was a loss not only to his family
and his fellow peace officers but to the entire community; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan exemplified in his personal and
professional conduct the virtues of courage, integrity, and
unwavering dedication to duty, and his commitment to the law
enforcement profession, as well as to the citizens he proudly
served, earned him the respect of all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Madisonville High School in his
hometown, he had been a member of DPS since February 2004; and
WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to this exceptional
police officer and to all the fine men and women in law enforcement
who, by their selfless devotion to the public welfare, have enabled
us to enjoy the benefits of a peaceful and orderly society; and
WHEREAS, Officer Zachary's exemplary service in a difficult
but essential profession will continue to inspire all who knew and
loved him, and though his life ended far too soon, his memory will
live on in the hearts of the countless people whose lives he
touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called
Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Billy J. Zachary
and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife, Tara Johnson Zachary; to his infant daughter, Zoe Kathryn
Zachary; to his parents, Lonnie and April Zachary; to his sister,
Conner Zachary; to his grandfather, Bill Conner; and to all who
mourn his passing; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
Officer Billy J. Zachary.
