CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Waxahachie High School Lady Indian basketball
team captured the 2006 UIL Class 4A state basketball championship
with a thrilling 52-48 win over Kerrville-Tivy at the Frank Erwin
Center in Austin on March 4, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Led by championship game MVP Niqky Hughes, the Lady
Indians dominated the fourth quarter to claim the come-from-behind
victory and complete their spectacular season with an impressive
32-6 record; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the contributions made by Ms. Hughes,
championship effort was displayed by team members Ariel Jones,
Tarrah Carr, Sheena Sowers, Amanda Mangan, Laura Lewis, Keena
Sowers, Lauren Rust, Destini Hughes, Anissia Jay, Asha Johnson,
Kelsey Benford, and Torrian Timms; and
WHEREAS, Head coach Lesli Priebe schooled these talented
athletes in hard-court fundamentals and the importance of teamwork
and sportsmanship; she received strong support from assistant
coaches Dana Scott and Vance Hughes, who offered vital
encouragement and instruction throughout the long season; and
WHEREAS, The memories of this championship season will remain
with the players and coaches for years to come, and it is a pleasure
to recognize the many individuals who contributed to the
realization of this exceptional accomplishment; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas,
3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Waxahachie High School
Lady Indian basketball team on winning the 2006 Class 4A state
basketball championship and extend best wishes to Coach Lesli
Priebe and her players and staff for continued success and
achievement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the coach and team as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
