H.R. No. 13 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The author of the recent book, One Nation Under God: The History of Prayer in America, is visiting the house chamber on this day, and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome James P. Moore, Jr., to Texas; and WHEREAS, One Nation Under God brings together the country's hymns, patriotic anthems, arts, and literature as a framework for telling the story of the spiritual life of our nation; Mr. Moore's diligent scholarship and keen insights have garnered critical praise and captivated countless readers, and the book has inspired a series of recordings and other projects, including a documentary that is currently being produced for PBS; and WHEREAS, A professor at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and an alumnus of Rutgers University and the University of Pittsburgh, Mr. Moore has lectured at Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Columbia, and he is a featured guest commentator on world and economic affairs for CNBC and Fox News; and WHEREAS, He served as the U.S. assistant secretary of commerce for trade development under President Ronald Reagan, and he has further distinguished himself as deputy assistant secretary of commerce for trade information and analysis and as principal deputy assistant secretary of commerce for international affairs; moreover, he was one of the chief negotiators in launching the Uruguay Round of International Trade Negotiations, which led to the creation of the World Trade Organization; and WHEREAS, The founder of ATI, an investment banking firm, Mr. Moore has served on the boards of the U.S. Export-Import Bank, the U.S. Overseas and Private Investment Corporation, the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, and the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution; and WHEREAS, By shedding light on the extraordinary role that prayer has played in American life through the centuries, James Moore has added an important new work to the nation's historical literature and enriched our understanding of our shared heritage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby welcome James P. Moore, Jr., to the Texas State Capitol and extend to him congratulations on the publication of his book, One Nation Under God: The History of Prayer in America; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Moore as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
