R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of R. C. "Ted" Bibby on December 1, 2004, at the age of 80, the Dallas community lost an able businessman, a devoted family man, and a valued citizen, and today we join in paying tribute to the memory of this esteemed Texan; and WHEREAS, Born in Los Angeles, California, on May 28, 1924, Mr. Bibby grew up in Dallas and graduated from North Dallas High School; as a young man he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and became one of the first and youngest Marine pilots to fly off aircraft carriers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bibby proudly served his country during World War II, flying bombers in the Pacific, and was later recalled to service during the Korean War as a helicopter test pilot; his dedication earned him the rank of major before his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1957; and WHEREAS, Using the GI Bill, he attended Southern Methodist University, where he received his bachelor's degree; he worked for Travelers Insurance Company as a special agent, and in 1955, he and his brother, Joe, founded the Bibby Insurance Agency; and WHEREAS, Ted Bibby managed the family-owned and family-operated company with integrity and honesty, working closely with countless North Texas residents to help them ensure a brighter future for themselves and their families and treating each of his clients as he would a close friend; and WHEREAS, Ever mindful of insurance industry standards, he served his peers as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas from 1981 to 1982; and WHEREAS, This passionate proponent of volunteerism served the greater community as well through his participation in the Union Gospel Mission, YMCA Camp Grady Spruce, and various prison ministries; over the course of his life, Mr. Bibby drew strength and sustenance from his faith, and set a sterling example of conviction and charity to which all may aspire; and WHEREAS, Throughout his endeavors, he was blessed with the love and support of his wife of 57 years, Alice Anne, and their five cherished children, Kathleen, Lisa, Pete, Robert, and Bruce; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bibby served the insurance industry with great dedication, building strong relationships with his clients and making many good friends; he was a giving individual in all aspects of his life who never failed to brighten the days of those around him; and WHEREAS, Ted Bibby's outgoing and generous personality will long be remembered by his family and friends and by those who were touched by his commitment to his profession and community, and he leaves behind a legacy to treasure for those who hold him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of R. C. "Ted" Bibby and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Alice Anne Bibby; to his children, Kathleen, Lisa, Pete, Robert, and Bruce; and to the other relatives and many friends of this fine man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of R. C. "Ted" Bibby.
