R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The year 2006 marks the 20th anniversary of the
Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce (GDAACC), and
this milestone presents a fitting opportunity to salute this fine
organization for its immeasurable contributions to the citizens of
North Texas; and
WHEREAS, The largest Asian American chamber of commerce in
the nation, the Dallas bureau was established in 1986 to develop
leaders, broaden awareness of other cultures, assist members in
finding new business opportunities, and represent Asian American
communities of the Greater Dallas area in the business world; and
WHEREAS, Providing vision and leadership for the thriving
organization of 1,000-plus members is a forward-thinking executive
committee that includes Linda Kao, chair; Jeffrey Cheng, Audrey
Sreshta, Tim Choe, Arnel Trovada, Esau Liu, and Mohammed Younus,
vice chairs; Christel Tappin, secretary; Lal Daswani, treasurer;
and Les Tanaka, executive director; they are ably assisted in the
implementation of plans and projects by a committed board of
directors and chamber staff; and
WHEREAS, The GDAACC has established a close relationship with
the Greater Dallas and North Dallas Chambers of Commerce and the
North Texas Commission, and forged strong alliances with chambers
representing other ethnic groups, such as the Dallas Black Chamber
of Commerce, the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and
the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas, the largest
Native American chamber in the United States; and
WHEREAS, To attract revenue from conventions and tourism and
to explore trade possibilities between Texas and Asia, the GDAACC
also works with entities such as the Dallas Convention and Visitors
Bureau and with various Asian American organizations; and
WHEREAS, Instituted in 2001, the Intermediary Lending
Program is a boon to small businesses, providing short-term
financial assistance to chamber members; the Multi-Ethnic
Education and Economic Development Center, located in the "Little
Asia" section of East Dallas, offers job training, entrepreneur
development theory, and business assistance to local residents;
these two endeavors demonstrate how the chamber sustains and
nurtures business development by meeting the diverse needs of
chamber and community members; and
WHEREAS, Involvement in chamber committees affords an
excellent opportunity to network with other professionals while
promoting the chamber and its various services and programs; among
the chamber's current committees are groups concerned with the
Asian Trade District, business and economic development,
corporate/public relations, education, finance, international
affairs, strategic planning, and women in business; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Greater Dallas Asian
American Chamber of Commerce has rendered invaluable assistance to
countless individuals, advanced cross-cultural understanding, and
played a vital role in fostering a robust business environment in
the Metroplex; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate all those
affiliated with the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of
Commerce on the chamber's 20th anniversary and extend to them
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the chamber as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
