H.R. No. 26 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the passing of John Carl Heft of Richardson on November 18, 2005, at the age of 75, a full and generous life came to an end; and WHEREAS, A native of Lancaster, Ohio, Mr. Heft was born to Merrill W. Heft and Mary E. Stoyle on March 11, 1930; he was a longtime citizen of the Lone Star State and a proud alumnus of Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in mathematics; following his graduation with the Class of 1953, he served his country with distinction as a member of the United States armed forces; and WHEREAS, John Heft enjoyed a notable 33-year career with Texas Instruments, Incorporated; during his tenure with that firm, he was employed at both the Richardson, Texas, and Attleboro, Maine, facilities; and WHEREAS, In retirement, this kind-hearted gentleman devoted his time and talents to a number of worthy endeavors in his community; a firm believer in education, Mr. Heft took particular satisfaction in tutoring children, helping them to build a strong foundation for the future; he also assisted Chinese-speaking students enrolled in English-as-a-second-language classes and worked with a job-support ministry; and WHEREAS, A man of deep convictions who quietly manifested his faith through the manner in which he lived his life, Mr. Heft was a respected congregant of the Waterview Church of Christ and an elder for 18 years in that congregation; and WHEREAS, John Heft was a Chicago Cubs fan of unwavering enthusiasm over the course of many decades; in addition to playing and coaching both baseball and basketball in his younger years, he continued to attend sporting events in retirement and also enjoyed travel--especially to Lithuania to visit his son and his family; and WHEREAS, John Heft made a significant difference in the lives of many people through his encouragement and mentoring, and he will long be fondly remembered by those fortunate enough to have shared in the richness of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of John Carl Heft and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his devoted wife, Jessica Heft; to his daughter, Ann Dean, and her husband, Ken; to his son, Scott Heft, and his wife, Virginija; to his grandchildren, Melissa Dean, Adam Dean, Aaron John Heft, and Mykolas Henry Heft; to his sister-in-law, Joan Heft; to his brothers-in-law, John Waggoner and Bill Waggoner; and to all his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Carl Heft.
