R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A full and generous life has come to an end with the passing of Anna Elisabeth Strohacker of Kerrville at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, The daughter of W. A. "Bill" and Mabel Sullivan, Mrs. Strohacker was born on June 15, 1920, in Billings, Montana, and raised in Kerrville, where she grew up with the companionship of a brother and three sisters; and WHEREAS, An alumna of Tivy High School, she attended Schreiner Institute and held several secretarial posts before becoming chief clerk for the Kerr County Ration Board; while serving in that capacity in 1943, Miss Sullivan met and married local rancher Louis G. Strohacker; the bride was joyfully embraced by her new in-laws and worked alongside her husband in the family ranching and farming enterprise, a challenging life Mrs. Strohacker found exceptionally rewarding; and WHEREAS, Long active in her community, this esteemed Texan was a valued member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kerr County Historical Commission, Home Demonstration Club, and Turtle Creek Sewing Club, as well as a charter member of the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association Auxiliary Committee; and WHEREAS, Betty Strohacker became the first woman to serve on the board of the Upper Guadalupe River Authority when Governor Bill Clements appointed her to that body in 1981, and she subsequently served two terms as board president; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Strohacker also worked diligently in behalf of the Republican Party, holding primary elections in her home and playing a vital role in the Republican Women of Kerr County, which named her Republican Woman of the Year in 2002; that same year, she was honored by the Texas Federation of Republican Women at the party's state convention; and WHEREAS, Over the course of many years, Betty Strohacker made immeasurable contributions to the betterment of her community and the Lone Star State, and her memory will forever light the hearts of those who treasured her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Anna Elisabeth "Betty" Strohacker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her children, Louis W. Strohacker, Joy S. Chesnutt, and Oscar C. Strohacker; to her grandchildren, Malcolm L. Chesnutt, Richard C. Strohacker, Sarah F. Strohacker, Rebecca Ann "Becky" Strohacker, and Miriam Elisabeth "Lisa" Strohacker; to her great-grandchildren, Brooke and Emily Chesnutt; to her sisters, Dr. Margaret Patricia Sullivan, Cornelia Garrison, and Sarah Louise Thorp and her husband, Murph; to her sister-in-law, Nancy Sullivan; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Anna Elisabeth "Betty" Strohacker.
