R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, The Kerrville community lost a beloved resident on 
December 27, 2005, when Rose Sturges passed away at the age of 87; 
and
	WHEREAS, Born on March 2, 1918, in Wapoto, Washington, Mrs. 
Sturges served her country as an interpreter for the Allied Forces 
during World War II in Japan; on March 16, 1953, she  married Claude 
C. Sturges, and she remained active in the Officers' Wives 
Organization throughout his military career; and
	WHEREAS, An active member of the Republican Party, Mrs. 
Sturges was a tireless civic volunteer, lending her time and 
talents to benefit such organizations as AARP, the American Red 
Cross, the Elks, the Dietert Senior Center, and First Methodist 
Church, including its 21st Century Sunday School Class; in 
recognition of her myriad contributions to the community, Kerrville 
named her Senior Citizen of the Year; and
	WHEREAS, Although her family and friends deeply miss this 
remarkable lady, Mrs. Sturges leaves behind a legacy of service 
that is a source of pride and inspiration for her loved ones; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of 
Rose Sturges and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her 
family: to her daughters and their husbands, Claudia and Denny 
Hill, Carol and Jack LaBorde, and Connie and Mike Leonard; to her 
sister, Mitsue Kendai; to her six grandchildren and 11 
great-grandchildren; to her two nephews; and to her other relatives 
and friends; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of 
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rose 
Sturges.
