R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of John D. Mullins of
Kerrville were deeply saddened by his passing on July 11, 2004, at
the age of 80; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 2, 1924, in Avon, Massachusetts, Mr.
Mullins served with distinction as a captain in the U.S. Army Air
Corps during World War II; on August 25, 1945, he married the love
of his life, the former Phyllis Stevens, in the chapel of the
Orlando Air Force Base in Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mullins worked 35 years as a scientist for
Pharmaceutical R&D Management, playing a role in the development of
new drugs in the pharmaceutical industry; he also made significant
contributions as a member of numerous professional organizations,
including the American Pharmaceutical Association, American
Association of Pharmaceutical Science, and the New York Academy of
Science; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, Mr.
Mullins played a positive role in his community through his
memberships with Lions International, Schreiner Oaks, and the
library advisory board as well as through his service as president
of KPAS and Friends of the Library; moreover, he belonged to the
Fifteenth Air Force Association, the First Fighter Group
Association, and the River Hill Country Club; and
WHEREAS, A congregant at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Mr.
Mullins was a valued member of his community, and his memory endures
through his legacy of good works; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
John D. Mullins and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
family: to his beloved wife, Phyllis S. Mullins; to his sisters,
Alice Fredette and Mary Louise Veracka; to his brothers, Richard
Mullins and wife, Katherine, and Paul Mullins and companion,
Shirley Rajala; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John D.
Mullins.
