H.R. No. 59 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For nearly four decades, San Benito community leader Joe Hernandez has been the neighborhood barber for countless South Texas residents; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hernandez received his state barber's license at the age of 19 and assumed the operation of his shop located in the La Palma area of San Benito in 1967; and WHEREAS, Not only has Mr. Hernandez provided a practical service to generations of San Benito residents, but he also has provided a friendly gathering place for customers to exchange news and stories about families, local events, and the wider world; and WHEREAS, Voted Readers' Choice Best Barber in 1977, Mr. Hernandez was accorded additional honors when his shop was named Pride Business of the Month by the San Benito Chamber of Commerce, and on October 29, 2000, his many friends and admirers celebrated Joe Hernandez Day in the city; and WHEREAS, A civic-minded individual who gives back to his community in many ways, Mr. Hernandez served six years with the San Benito Economic Development Corporation and two terms as a city commissioner; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Oralia, their two children, Joe and Norma Linda, and their four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Since establishing his barbershop in 1967, Joe Hernandez has contributed to the lives of his neighbors through his accomplishments as a businessman and community leader, and he is truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Joe Hernandez for his exceptional service to the San Benito community and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
