R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Cat Spring Agricultural Society are
celebrating the organization's 150th anniversary on June 3, 2006;
and
WHEREAS, Founded on June 7, 1856, the society was organized
to provide an informative forum for early settlers in Austin County
to promote and exchange ideas about farming, as well as to purchase
seeds in bulk and experiment with new crops and soils; the first
meeting was held with 40 members present, and a constitution with 11
articles was adopted; and
WHEREAS, Today, the society boasts 120 regular members and 37
honorary members, and its headquarters has long provided area
residents with a community meeting place, hosting dances, the
city's anniversary celebrations, June Fest, Grape Growers Field
Day, and other popular local events; and
WHEREAS, For 150 years, the Cat Spring Agricultural Society
has played a vital role in the community it serves, and it is indeed
a pleasure to recognize the organization and its dedicated members,
both past and present; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate all those
associated with the Cat Spring Agricultural Society on the 150th
anniversary of their organization and extend to them sincere best
wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
